What to Bring (Gear List)

Our first camping trip of the year, in May.

Contrary to popular belief, the Yukon normally has a warm dry summer. The climate here is semi-arid with a total precipitation of 10-12’ The Yukon Territory is one of the driest & sunniest places in Canada!

Summer brings 24 hours of daylight from mid May until the middle of August. Daytime temperatures average in the 70s, with occasional highs in the 80s. Nights can be considerably cooler on the lakes and rivers, in the 42-46 degree range.

When it does rain, showers are the norm rather than a steady driving rain. Your clothing should reflect both hot days on the water and cooler nights. The sun is very intense on the water, so bring lots of sunscreen and a wide brimmed hat! A shell that cuts the wind is also a must.

Clothing we suggest:
 Sun Glasses
Wide brim hat
Warm & snug insulated hat(tooke)
Light gloves for warmth & paddling
Soft pair of rubber boots - neoprene kayaking boots are the best I've ever found
Hiking boots - light weight
Short sleeve T shirts
Flannel long sleeve shirts
Down or fleece vest
Fleece coat / sweater
Wind proof shell
Light weight rain gear
A couple of pairs light wool socks
Light weight long johns for your legs
