Yukon River

The Yukon River at Lake Laberge     This trip is the most interesting, scenic and enjoyable one-day canoe trip available on the Yukon River.

Our journey starts from our dock on Lake Laberge. With our canoes stored safely on top of our boat, we head south, exploring the shoreline of this pristine wilderness lake - 30 miles long and surrounded by mountains which are snow-capped through much of the summer. It is one of the most beautiful lakes in the Yukon (click here for an aerial photo). Along the way there is excellent fishing for Lake trout, Northern pike and Arctic grayling.

By early morning we will enter the Yukon River where it empties into the south end of Lake Laberge. We'll stop here for refreshments, and to take pictures from the beautiful sandy beach.

Fall on the Teslin River     Back on board, we'll take a short 30-minute run up the Yukon River - your canoeing adventure is about to begin!

Unloading our canoes on the beach, you may now set off paddling downstream on the Yukon River. The current here is moderate, but it moves you along at a nice rate of speed, making paddling easy and enjoyable. Bald eagles abound here, along with falcons, geese, ducks, moose and bear. There are numerous channels along the river, and paddling the quiet backwaters is very productive for wildlife viewing.

Canoeing the Yukon River     We'll stop for an afternoon lunch along the river, at a spot chosen for its great view. Your guide will cook you a gourmet lunch over an open fire while you relax in the peace and quiet of the yukon wilderness.

After lunch you can continue your paddling adventure until reaching a sandy beach called Policeman's Point - site of an abandoned North west Mounted Police post from the gold rush era. Here we'll stretch our legs, then reload the canoes onto the boat for the relaxing run back down Lake Laberge to our home dock, bringing to a close another unforgettable adventure in the Yukon Territory.
